Wind and Power

This weekend we experienced another evening of heavy, strong winds. The heavy winds blew all night and into the morning on Saturday, but weakened slightly by morning. This was the first time in our new house we were able to experience the Santa Ana winds at this strength. Quite exciting! What made it even more exciting, is that between roughly 10:00 PM and 10:30 PM Friday night the power shut off and back on several times, the lights flickered many times in this same period. We saw bright flashes in the sky and heard some loud sounds that accompanied the power flickers and outages. The kids enjoyed running around outside in the wind. I think Sparky even thought it was interesting.
Then at around 1:20 AM Saturday morning the power went out completely. It was out all day Saturday, and again into the night. No lights, no TV, no computer, no video games, no nothing with electricity except our phones and flashlights and lanterns.
It was actually a nice break, where we had to find other things to do. I sat in our living room and read some which was a nice change of pace. Stephanie and I chatted while we washed and dried a bunch of dishes. We got to meet and few new neighbors as well as chat with some that we'd already met. In the end the experience wasn't a bad one.
Yes, the lights did come back on, sometime around 1:30 AM on Sunday morning. Which was good as we didn't want to lose any food in our fridge of freezer, which thankfully, none was lost. If you're in Southern California I hope you faired okay this last weekend too.
